Our Founders
Dr. Edward Malashock (3/27/1924 – 5/10/2022) was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Malashock had a storied medical career that spanned seven decades. After earning his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, he served in the US Army Medical Corps in the Philippines in 1946. After serving, he briefly practiced medicine in St. Louis and New York before coming home to Omaha. In 1965, Dr. Malashock performed the first two kidney transplants in Nebraska. It was then that he joined the UNMC faculty as a clinical professor of surgery urology. He would go on to serve as President of Clarkson Hospital Medical Staff, Metropolitan Omaha Medical Society and the Nebraska Urological Society.
Sally Malashock (10/31/1924 – 2/24/2019) was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. Her kindness and a lifetime of service to the area made her a beloved and respected member of the Omaha Community. Sally served on the Temple Israel board, was Chairwoman of the Ak-Sar-Ben Ball Committee, served as president of the Nebraska Medical Center Faculty Wives, president of the Omaha Council of Jewish Women, president of the Clarkson hospital service league and trustee of the University of Nebraska Foundation.
The Malashock Family: Ed and Sally’s love of Omaha was surpassed only by their love of family. The couple had been married 74 years at the time of Sally’s passing in 2019. Their greatest source of pride were their three children (Jan, James and Mark) and six grandchildren. Ed and Sally had great love and admiration for the city of Omaha. They believed life could not reach its full potential without a vibrant, welcoming, well-supported community. The Edward and Sally Malashock Family Foundation aims to support this community that meant so much to them and continue their legacy of service.
